1. Introduction
Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Travel Safe Bites, provided by Redsprint Ltd ("we", "us"), collects, uses, and protects your information. By using Travel Safe Bites, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. No Account, No Personal Details
Travel Safe Bites does not ask you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any similar personal detail. When you first use the app, Travel Safe Bites signs you in anonymously using Firebase Authentication (a Google service). This gives your device a random, pseudonymous identifier (an anonymous user id) so that your scans can be processed and associated with your device. It is not tied to your real identity.
3. What Data Leaves Your Device
To analyse your food choices, the app sends the following to the Travel Safe Bites backend:
- Photos you scan. When you scan a menu, fridge, buffet, supermarket shelf, food cabinet, or packaged food label, the image is uploaded to our secure cloud storage and analysed by OpenAI's vision API. The image is stored temporarily (see Data Retention below); the analysis is stored under your anonymous user id.
- Your dietary restrictions and notes. The restrictions and any optional custom notes from the profile you are scanning with are sent alongside each scan so the analysis reflects your food rules.
- A device and locale snapshot. When the app signs in, it sends a small snapshot of your device: device model, operating system version, region, language, and the app version. We use this for diagnostics and to understand where Travel Safe Bites is used.
4. What Stays On Your Device
- Your profiles. The profiles you create, including their dietary restrictions and custom notes, are stored locally on your device. Restrictions and notes are transmitted only when you run a scan, as described above.
- Recent scan session state used to show your recent results is kept on your device.
- Scan place labels. If you allow location access, the app labels each scan with the place it was taken (for example "Krakow, PL" and the nearby street) so your scan history reads like a travel log, and so a scan you choose to share can show a small map of where you found the dish. Your device uses its location and the operating system's geocoding and map services (provided by Apple) to produce the label and the map image. Your location stays on your device: it is never sent to our servers, and it is not part of the scan analysis. It only leaves your device if you yourself share a card that shows it, and you can edit or remove the place text before sharing. If you decline location access, scans are simply saved without a place - everything else works the same.
5. Third-Party Processors
We use a small number of trusted providers strictly to operate Travel Safe Bites. They act as processors on our behalf:
- Google Firebase - provides anonymous authentication for the app. See the Firebase Privacy and Security information.
- OpenAI - analyses the photos you scan to identify food options. See the OpenAI Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare - provides the temporary storage the photos you scan are uploaded to (Cloudflare R2). See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- Apple - if you allow location access, your device uses Apple's geocoding service to turn your approximate coordinates into a place name, on device request. We never receive your location.
6. How We Use Your Data
We use the data described above only to provide and improve Travel Safe Bites: to analyse your scans and return food recommendations, to operate anonymous sign-in, to diagnose problems, and to understand general usage. We do not use your photos or restrictions to identify you.
7. No Advertising or Tracking
Travel Safe Bites contains no advertising, no third-party advertising SDKs, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Scan images are stored temporarily to run the analysis and are automatically deleted from storage within 30 days. The analysis results are stored under your anonymous user id so the service can function and be maintained. Your profiles, restrictions, and scan place labels remain on your device and are removed if you delete the app. You can delete the server-side scan data associated with your anonymous id at any time from Settings in the app ("Delete my data"), or by contacting us at the address below.
9. Permissions
Travel Safe Bites requests access to your Camera and Photo Library for one reason only: so you can capture or select the images you want to scan. The app does not access your photos for any other purpose.
The app can also ask for Location (while using the app). This is optional and used for one thing: labelling your scans with the place they were taken, on your device - including the small map shown on a share card if you choose to share a find. Your location never leaves your device except for the on-device requests to Apple's geocoding and map services described above, or when you yourself share a card that shows a place. You can decline or revoke this permission at any time in Settings; scans then simply have no place label.
10. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted communication with our backend, to protect data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children's Privacy
Travel Safe Bites is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, and we encourage you to review it periodically.
